Feels like Summertime!

HELLO warm weather!
Sophie finds nothing helps her beat the heat quite like a spot of tea...
and a diaper full of nice cool water.
Here Micah & I kayak down the Catawba River - burning 350 calories an hour! Behind us you can see the I-85 bridge (crossing from Mecklenburg to Gaston county) & the Mount Holly water tower.

Kate's Third Birthday

For my birthday today, we went to the botanical gardens. We didn't see tulips in Holland, so here we are next to a few.
It was a pretty day, so Sophie & I jumped out of the stroller for a little walk. Mommy said to be careful not to fall into the fountains because the water was cold.
We couldn't believe that since it was so nice outside. We had to feel it for ourselves. Mommy is so smart!
On your birthday, you get to eat fun things like: pizza, hummus, & chocolate cupcakes.
The bummer is when you are all grown-up, like I am, you have to eat like a lady.

This poor little rocking chair has taken quite a beating but it hasn't given up yet.

He is Risen!

In the words of Kate..."Happy Easter! HOORAY! HOORAY!"
Some pictures of our Easter weekend... The church Easter egg hunt. Check out how Kate is at the head of the pack. Well, at least she's ahead of the grown-ups & that kid with the gigantic basket.
That's a full basket!
Taking a Saturday night bath.
Kate rides her bike in style. Sophie, Easter bonnet in hand, walks to her Daddy.

Pictures from the Weekend - Last Holland Post...

Sophie is such a ham.
Here I am daintily eating poffertjes. Sort of like a very small pancake.
Sophie didn't come along for this trip - just us big girls & Opa. (Harbor at Spakenburg)
Sunday Brunch at our little farm house in Putten. (Side note: Even though our address was Putten, the little town we were closest to was called Hell. Seriously.)
Here almost everybody is. Hey - someone had to take the picture.
Actually, I think I was napping.

Friday - To Amsterdam they go!

No, we aren't too mad that Daddy & Mommy left us for the day to go to Amsterdam with Uncle Phil & Aunt Christine.Uncle Phil & Aunt Christine at Amsterdam Centraal - the main train station. Isn't Daddy quite the photographer??? Aunt Christine is very good, too. Hopefully I will get some of those artsy genes.Ha ha! I found this picture in Mommy's stash. Think of it as payback for not letting me go with you guys! Daddy & Mommy looking very Dutch.A quick snack at the Bijenkorf (a fancy Dutch department store).

Thursday - A Fun Day Shopping

The more observant of you will notice that Wednesday is missing from the blog. We did actually have a great Wednesday. We visited the street organ museum in Utrecht. But, we didn't have blog-worthy pictures, so we skip to Thursday.Uncle Phil, Aunt Christine, & Mommy are so quaint. Here they are doing a bit of shopping at the market in downtown Bussum. As you can see, I am a more modern girl. Here you see me hitting the local supermarket - Albert Heijn.
So many good cheeses in Holland - it can be tricky to pick just the right one. And, then the choices for after dinner drinks is a little too much to comprehend.
For dinner, Sophie & I split a big apple pannekoek. This is a big crepe-like Dutch pancake. Very tasty!

A Stop at Noah's Ark

Drachten, Friesland. Home of a 1/4 size Noah's ark.
Sophie on the ark.
A family shot from inside the ark.
A stop in Giethoorn. Known as the Venice of the North.
A friendly game of cards.

Monday, Monday...

Here we are at our hotel - the Jan Tabak. It was fun because it was right around the corner from where Moesa used to live. (Side note: RC Sproul used to live down the street.) Anyway, Grandma & I are so cool because we coordinate.
Opa & Grandma by the Zuiderzee. It was very windy & cold. Fortunately, Mommy & Daddy were nice enough to keep me bundled up in the car.
Out of the car for a quick stop to Volendam. Doesn't Aunt Christine look glam??
A family shot in Volendam.
Lunch stop in Friesland. I am pretending to be a rabbit.

Sunday

We were all very sad that Uncle Neil & Aunt Rebecca couldn't come with us. But, I packed my Christmas present from them (this shirt). Thanks for keeping me fashionable!!
A Bomgaars family shot outside of old Naarden - a fortified city.
A bigger shot of family.
Grandma, Mommy, & me! Aren't we the cutest??
More to come....

Trip to Holland

Friday, March 20th, we headed out for Holland. We were joined in Houston by Opa & Grandma, Uncle Phil & Aunt Christine.
When we arrived (Saturday morning), we were treated to Olsthoorn gebakjes (pastries). I sure could go for one or more of those right now.
Oops! Caught with my mouth full.
2 great-grandchildren sit on Moesa's lap.
