John's First Haircut

John got his first haircut this Saturday. The man cutting his hair has been at it for 64 years (not John's hair, but hair in general). The finished look! And a reward trip in the firetruck for being such a good client.

Lazy 5 Ranch

Today we headed out to the Lazy 5 Safari Ranch. Sophie was the (self-)designated photographer.

A self-portrait

Sophie was sure to take several pictures of zebras since they're John's favorite animals.

Micah shows John what to do with the animal food - feed a llama.

John decides the feed is good for all kinds of animals.

Aviation Museum

On Labor Day, we took the kids to the "airplane museum." One of the highlights was the plane from the "miracle on the hudson." Since we went, the girls have been telling me they don't want to go on an airplane that goes in the water. Fortunately, we don't have any airplane trips planned in the near future.

Kate in the cockpit.

Sophie at the controls.

Kate's First Day of School

Here she is with her new lunchbox & backpack - very excited about starting kindergarten.

With her brother and sister who are somewhat less excited about her starting school.

Sisters...portrait by little brother (with some help from Micah).

Fun, Fun, Fun

On Saturday, we drove up to Vancouver where the girls got their faces painted. On the way home, we stopped at a(nother) dairy where John got to enjoy an ice cream cone (for 75 cents).

Cows...

We also got to see lots of cows on our trip. One day we took a trip to a dairy where they had a cow milking parlor that had a machine that milked 50 cows at a time. Cousin Cole is impressed.

Sophie takes a peek at a few of the milk producers - face-to-face.
Another stop on our trip...a cheese farm. Kate takes a break from the tour to meet a few cows.

More Washington

We were in the car a lot, so the girls amused themselves by taking pictures. Here is a self-portrait of Kate.Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday we went to local parks for big picnics with the whole family. This is the first park we went to where the kids had fun playing on the beach.

Mountains

One day a group of us went out towards Mt. Baker.
The kids had fun playing in the snow (in August)! We got to take in some beautiful scenery.
There was so much snow this year on the mountain that all the picnic tables were still under snow, so we had to picnic on the parking lot.

Wagenaar Family Reunion

We had a big family reunion in Washington state with all of the Wagenaar family (Micah's mother's family). Here is a shot of everyone. I think someone counted 53 of us.
The county where Micah's family lives is a huge berry producer. (I think someone said they produce 60% of the country's raspberries.) Twice we went raspberry picking - for $1.60 a pound!John ate his fair share.

More Fun with Family

John hanging with Opa.
The girls go for a walk on the beach with Grandma.
Aunt Rebecca reads Sophie a section from "Prom Dates from Hell."
One night, we did a murder mystery. Micah was the doctor, and I was the secretary.

A Week at Folly Beach with the Roosma's

The whole Roosma family got together for a week of vacation.
While there, Micah & I celebrated our 10th anniversary! We went on a very fun culinary tour of Charleston.
The girls with their new shades.
